This Made Me Smile::Monday:: Oh to be a photographer...

Monday, March 4, 2013

I almost posted this last week (in fact I did post it, but then took it off real quick and posted something else), but here it is now. This not only makes me smile, but it makes me laugh.

I found this on someone's blog a long time ago and saved it so I could re-post it at one point in time.
My personal comments in italics.

Top Twenty-one Reasons You Might Be a Photographer

1.  You have nightmares of people using the "P mode"  we won't even talk about the "green mode."  That's just too scary.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Manual. That is the only thing my camera is ever on.

2.  30,000 family photos neatly categorized in Lightroom.  Zero photos of you.
Well......I am not that well organized in LR (I use iPhoto to organize), and a do take more than a couple of pictures of myself.

3.  When at a car dealership, you translate the price of a car in your head to "Six 5D Mark II's."  Your last power bill cost two monopods.
Not just with cars.....with EVERYTHING. Ask my little brother.

4.  You are frequently greeted with "What are you taking a picture of?!?" instead of "hello."
That doesn't happen to me actually....but I can see it happning.

5.  You describe disgusting old dilapidated barns as "beautiful"  (via Lori Anderson)
Ha-YES. Anything like that looks good to me!

6.  Number of lenses > Pairs of shoes you own (Carsten Deutschmann)
I wish...right now I own 4 lenses, and I think I have more shoes that that (shucks!).

7.You're somewhat troubled by the fact that you don't know how to calculate the shutter speed of your eyes when you blink
Ummm......YES. YES. And YES again. Every day.

8. When performing daily duties, you adjust the angle of your head or change your line of vision for a more interesting composition (Erica Lampley)
Doesn't everyone? No? Oh.

9.You've gotten a ticket for an illegal u-turn– to go back for THE shot (Becca Morrison)
I am pretty sure I will one day.

10.Everyone hands you their cameras at family events and says"take some photos for me" (Khurt Williams)
Yup. All the time. I just have to try to remember that a "good" photographer should be able to take good pictures with any camera.
Heh.

11.You pity, and judge, members of the public when you see them using their big, fancy dSLR in… automatic… (Chad Dumbris)
*snif* Yeah. Sorry guys.

12.The sign "no flash photography" means nothing to you and makes you laugh, because YOU don't need a flash (Michael Kilian)
I don't even look at those signs. Meh.

13.You no longer need a purse because your lipgloss and ID fit just fine in your camera bag (Megan Jeffries and Maureen Lingle)
Pretty much, since my camera bag is HUGE.

14.You think in f-stops (Jackie Buys)
Every day.

15.You will starve yourself just to get that last 30 minutes of the golden-hour of the day! (Crystal Prahl)
I can't even think about food when "That Time" comes.

16.You try to go "full manual" with your p&s or phone camera (Larry Wright)
I don't even know how to use auto.
Thank you.

17.You are driving past "scary" parts of town and can't wait to use it for a shoot! (Jennifer Fisser)
Yup, pretty much, I can see it all in my head!

18.You have finally become oblivious to the odd stares you get when you whip out your camera to take a sweet shot that no one else seems to notice but you (Deborah Austin)
Do people look at me funny? Oh.

19.You watch a movie and pay more attention to the aperture then what's happening in the movie (Celicia Steidl)
I didn't know that anyone else did that! I am not alone! Yippie!
I even try to figure how wide ope the f-stops are by the way the bokeh is shaped! Please tell me you do this to.
Please?

20.The camera in your hand is more comfortable than the tennis shoes on your feet (JK Bane)
I don't wear tennis shoes. Can't stand the things.
I don't know if that helps the point at all though.

21.You wish you had a camera installed in your retina (Kellie Allen)
I do. Yes I do. Every moment.

One more thing:

Happy Monday!
~Mackenzie

p.s I made a new thing(for lack of a better word) for my "Profile" here. It is just temporary for now....until one day when I totally re-design my blog.

  1. I saw this last week and enjoyed it quite thoroughly and have again enjoyed it this week. :)
    So funny.
Let me see if I can add anything....
You know you're a photographer if:
Your sons' names are Mark, Mark II, Mark III, and so on.
Your favorite numbers are 1.2 and 1.4.
To add to the one about watching the aperture instead of the movie, I also try to figure out what they did in editing -- split toning? Are their highlights down?

  2. Oh I do the movie thing all the time, I'm like "oh, i like that angle, and how did they get that shot?"
I love all your facts. And yes, having a camera in my eye would be epic. :)

  6. ha! I saw this on my dashboard last week, and was really disappointed to find that "this post doesn't exist"... =) =) Of course, it was worth the wait though! This is so funny. YES, and double YES for #5! I loveee old barns, even when not taking pictures of them. Oh, and #11... that reminds me of the time we were watching the olympics and after one of the contestants found out their winning score, this "pro" camera guy in the background was SO frustrated and shaking his camera because (apparently) something wasn't working right. All the time, you could see that HIS LENS CAP WAS STILL ON. Oh, did I get a laugh out of that. =P #19 - so glad I'm not the only one, too!
